These are some stuff I've been doing when I have the time. Most of my sketches are done with Mirage and a Wacom Cintiq or traditionally with Dermatograph pencils...

yo dude, i like your style, more people should post concept art up in this establishment, are you planning any 3ds from this work??
also just another question, how do you get the poses so natural?

Tanks, Matt
Some of my sketches do end up in Modeler and Layout, but the main goal of these drawings is to keep me sharp. About the poses, well I'm glad you think likewise, because this is where I'm aiming. I am, above all, a 2D Animator. Poses are what matter. I try to memorise what I see during the day and when I have access to any drawing tool (usually a Cintiq and Mirage) I try to reproduce what I saw earlier.
If you draw it while it's fresh you'll never forget it and If/when the time comes that you must draw a pose like that you'll be ready. 2D Animation is very time consuming and the Animator shouldn't spend time thinking on how to draw something. It must come natural.

Glad you like them. This is far from being a girl, but it was todays work. He was a Leutenant that fought for brasilian independance. He was hanged for not denying his principles. I had to do a progressive portrait of him today. All in Mirage... I just love Mirageīs pencils!

The drawing has a classical style. Like a French 19th century painter, you could imagine Ingres or David had drawn that.
Thats an impressive beard that chap has. They could have used his beard as a rope, hes got so much of it.
Thanks for the historical background regarding this incredible drawing.

Well, he died in 1792 when here, in Brasil the portuguese royal family brought the neo classic art and David's paints. He was usualy portrayed with long beard and hair in long white clothes in an attempt to make him look like Jesus and gather simpathy for the cause of independence.
Thanks for the coments!

Those are very impressive sketchs there, the one with the female martial artist in tne uniform stands out as does alot of your other ones as well the ice skater is also stunning.
I always find it hard to draw a female from all the profileviews side front, and make it look like the same female any tips.
But very impressive work, thanks for letting us view them
Don
Beautiful sketches!
For the mermaids, how did you approach the poses? Did you use reference, or is this more from pure anatomy knowledge?

Thanks for the comments. I do these sketches for training purposes, but it is also my play time, so I don't bother to seek references at all. As I said before, all of this is from memory. I preffer to draw the impression of something I saw than to do a simple copy. As good Animation is the Animator's impression of a pose or movement instead of just copying it wich is mere rotoscopy. Above all, I just have fun drawing...

Thanks for the comments! These sketches are study but they are also my play time. The mermaids just came out from simple lines. So I thought she appeared to be swimming than I've remembered the triplets from Wagner's das Rheingold and decided to go for it. I never bother to seek references when sketching because I do it for fun. I also think a drawing turns out better when we draw our impression of something than when we just copy it

I think the advantage when drawing from memory is thats its spontanious thought that pours out.
Theres such clarity of form when you draw Piolla, thats what impresses me. I try that and draw like theres smoke in my eyes resulting disproportionate dimentions.

Its an exercise I do for a long time and as every exercise, the results improve with time, I think.
Hereīs what I did today. A girl with large proportions but IMHO still attractive, a martial artist and a scene at the beach. I remember when I was a child my mom took us to the beach thinking in relaxing, but as soon as we got there we used to run towards the whater. I saw a scene like this today...
She is still fixing her bikini but still has one eye at the daughter. Moms are sharp!

Thats me too. Thats why I draw in Photoshop. Just because of the undo button. Erasing alot with rubber still leaves dirty marks. And, alas if finally there is a sketch in the end. I could never do the same face twice! Thats why Im in LWing. Model it once, and you have the same face/body over and over for all poses throughout!
But yeah... I wish I could draw like that too...

Tanks for the comments!
I did this one today... The invisible man. Actually I didnīt know what to draw and just ended up with the girl. It didnīt looked like it needed any body else in the picture, so I figured that was an invisible person already there...

Id say Number 1s body (Claws especially) with number 3s head should do fine.
Just so you know Piolla, Im buying a Wacom Intuo 3 6x8 Tablet after seeing all what you can do.
Especially the general one.

Thanks for the help guys!
diedond: I'm glad more people are getting motivated! Post the stuff you make with the tablet for us to see, please!
So, here is the final dragon. I kinda mixed up everything people liked in every one of them ad this is the result...
The rest are just playing around and character development for a horror/suspense short I'm thinking of....

Wow....you've been busy. Love the dragon. The character development is a awesome. The very last few sketches of the girl I think is wonderful, hardly any lines but the essence of the character is all there. :jam:
