Hey all,

Got my Wacom Tablet, and its a Graphire -heh- yeah, but I like it anyway.

I thought this might be the right forum to inquire about Photoshop painting tutorials. I am kinda looking for some advanced ones kinda like what Stephen Stahlberg does.

In fact I studied one of his tut's on clouds and I thought I would post my WIP to get things started. If that's ok?

Thanx to you bluerider for suggesting this forum!

Regards,

This is my study/reproduction of Peirre-Paul Prud’hon’s, Standing Female Nude, circa 1810. I used black charcoal, heightened with white chalk, on blue charcoal paper.

I think, I should have used a finer textured paper to get better subtleties that Prud'hon achieved, esp. around the face. I also think some of the shadows on the bodies musculature could have been presented somewhat softer.

Thanx for looking! :D

Digital Hermit,
I love the tinted paper, can't go wrong studying the techniques of a French Master like that. Something rarely encouraged with Art Colleges these days. Its discouraged because of the nonsense philosophy that copying someone else's study isn't being creative....but its doing something else rather important. Hence i would encourage whole heartily what you have done.

You Of course pick up and appreciate the mastery of the Artist you are studying and their copious appreciation of form, wonderful gradiations of tone, mastery of straights and curves etc.

Try the finer toothed paper and compare the differences and post here and tell me your conclusions.

Thanks for posting, this is very much appreciated.

A sketch of me. I referenced a pic my son took of me using, none other than, my Wacom tablet.

I am still getting familiar with the tablet... I am liking it a little more each time I use it.

My son brought over one of his "girl" friends and he was showing off some of my art to her... She asked if I drew Goth or Anime. I said, "Not really, but I could try." Later I was checkin' out Deviant Art and saw promo that kinda looked like her... so I did her likeness and my son emailed it to her. She’s a nice girl and surprisingly, from what I could tell, not an "emo" - heh.

Anyway, It was kind of a sketch... So voila! :)

Digital Hermit,
I like the stylization of your son's girlfriend a lot. Great composition.
