I'm assuming that 9.5.1 is mostly for the benefit of the Mac version since it hasn't been released yet.

I hope it's a lot more than that, I found around 14 bugs in LW 9.5 PC 32/64bit with in ten minutes of using it, and i have confirmed another 4 including 2 showstoppers when using FiberFactory, you honestly are left wondering what Beta means to NT. Releasing quality releases at the end, is certainly not happening...

According to my recollection it's been that way for quite a few years now. Is it because NT is trying to sell 9.5 at siggraph? It's annoying and is not a good presentation to deliver an unfinished work to paying customers when professionals are watching. I understand deadlines but I also understand a good presentation to the public is critical, possibly even more critical than meeting a deadline. When I did detailed illustration using oil paints I felt it necessary some times to take another couple of days past the due date. No I didn't have a starving family to feed but that early in the game of a freelancer I felt it necessary to take the hit and finish the work properly. I think NT should do that as well since they do appear to be a team of superfriends in a underdog uniform.

Edit: Oh wait, this is the car paint shader node thread. Sorry about that.

Any legit user can register for the open beta. This means a new build on a several-day basis. Lw is a moving target. At some point they have to release *something*. 9.5 is a huge step forward. Yes there are things to fix, but there already new builds out to just do that.

I assume you sent in those bug reports?

What bugs did you find?

Sorry CelShader, I don't have time to list them all, or even fogz them anymore, LW is only used as a Hobby tool for myself as of late. And I'm currently paid to find bugs for another competing 3D Application.

But: I'm sure you are aware of the crashes in FFLT.P and Surfed9.dll when using FFX under 32/64 bit. Trying to make Viper presets for hair is really useful unless crashing is your thing. (although i have made two work so far) Also using various nodes will crash FFX as well. (At least 6 separate bugs in FFX) Also sometimes the shadows disappears, and returns next render, as well as black artifacts on some renders.

Load the ZBrush_Head.lws scene: Notice the corrupt OGL display of the Model: Doing an F9 will fix the OGL corruption.

Modeler: Display Options - TopRight - Perspective - "Independent Visibility"
When using Independent view, I turn off "Show Grid" and "Show Origin"

If you uncheck "Independent Visibility" View a second time: "Show Grid" and "Show Origin" are unchecked still, but the grid and origin are still shown, You need to toggle them off and on again, to get the correct options shown at the right times (someone forget to count a 1) (minor bug i agree, but one of the 14 i found in using 9.5 for 15mins, after a 6 month open Beta is a little disappointing)

Any others and NT would have to pay me to disclose them as my time is worth much more money these days, and I've helped NT for free for years... :) Fortunately for myself other companies pay quite well.... ;)

Hm. Sounds like six bugs:

FFX crash involving VIPER presets
FFX crash involving nodes
FFX shadows disappear
FFX black artifacts
Corrupt OpenGL display on ZBrush head
A bug with Modeler display options

Thank you for taking the time to post an overview of these six bugs.

Cheers,

Yeah i don't have time to detail them all. If FFX wasn't so buggy i would spend a little more time detailing the rest of them too.... On the positive the quality of rendering of FFX has improved a lot over the beta...

Interesting.

I spent the time to report them and now they're gone, so I don't have to waste even more time working around them now. I'm glad to see you DO have the time to waste struggling with your special little bugs in the future. The rest of us would probably prefer to not have to deal with them. Thanks for the wonderful help.

Wow you are my hero 30 bugs! Do you want a kiss for finding the HV bugs? Or did you want a bragging contest?

We love you Dave you are my heroine... ;) Perhaps you should spend more time using FFX than and finding those bugs, rather than bragging about your HV expertise... ? "The rest of us would probably prefer not to have to deal with them, Thanks for the wonderful help.... Umm, errr useless post...

Everyone is much better off reading your posts about your FFX 'expertise' and special super secret bug findings that you want to keep all to yourself, about a feature that you apparently have no interest in seeing fixed. I doubt anyone cares about your productivity, hence the reason why nobody would question it... But it seems i must matter for you to question me?

In one week. That included 17 in a single day, all about a single feature, but I'll accept your thanks over a kiss.

Oh my god, are you trying to start a pissing contest? Get a life Dave, or better go find some bugs and brag about them. I didn't thank you, as you have not done anything for myself that would warrant such praise. But we all know you would prefer the kiss.

Right. Everyone is much better off reading your posts about your FFX 'expertise' and special super secret bug findings that you want to keep all to yourself, about a feature that you apparently have no interest in seeing fixed. That is, unless the price is right...

I don't claim "Everyone" is better doing anything, surprisngly I'm living my life, and not "everyones" therefore what everyone is better off doing is of little concern to myself. Perhaps you speak for everyone, but i speak for myself.

If NT want to fix their bugs they need to hire people to fix them, assign a QA team, or get people like yourself who love to be thanked for fixing bugs, (how many was that 17 in one day WOW!)I personally make money from being in Software QA, and as such have very little time to do the job for free, If you like to than more power to you..

Here is an idea i need a Car Modeled with full detail and lighting in the scene, I can't afford to do it, How about you do it for me for free?

Previously i had more time to devote to LW and fogz, But i simply have bills to pay these days. In the last few years i have reported my fair share of LW bugs, I won't mention numbers. (as it seems only you want to brag) It seems Jen was happy that i at least managed to mention a few bugs... If you are not... Well i guess we will all lose sleep over your productive opinion. So far I've contributed more useful information on the bugs I've found than you have in this thread?

He Who Wonders Who Is Bragging.

Dunno, but if i were you, I wouldn't :) I would spend more time fixing the bugs that you claim you are so good at fixing. Personally i don't have time at the moment. (despite having a day off today) I have a sick family member to care for... Perhaps your priorities are different.

Yep, The Newtek forums have been asking me to add a reply, ask a question or join a thread for a few months, as as I've finally had sometime to evaluate 9.5, and i have 2 free days, I'm catching up on a lot of 3D forums today. And also because Jen asked me a question for which i gave as decent reply to as i could in the time frame i had, (rather than attack others posts) QA and metrics testing takes a long time to narrow the exact cause of an issue, I don't have time to detail every one... But i can type 180wpm... :)

For example I can crash FFX in Surfed9.dll when opening Viper before a render, But i crash in FFLT9.p when using Viper after render... These do take time do give in depth reports to NT. As yet I'm not sure what causes black artifacts in one render, and not the next. Otherwise i would try to give those details in the timeframe I have as well. Perhaps you are so good to help?

He Who Is Back To Work Again.
Perhaps you are planning the pricing on your next LW tips book? No wait, you do that for the "Thankyou" too right? I'll expect that car model anyday now.?

PS.. In the last few months I've worked in my free time with Dpont on various bug testing of nodes and 3DCoat .LWO import, and given my own free plugins and scripts to the community So i do give back, unlike some.!
