Hi everyone. Here's a bigfoot I made a while back. Now I can finally put hair on it using Fiber FX!!! Don't look too close, there's a lot of weird glitches in the fur render. Sometimes I get hair that streaks toward the center of the object. Not sure why this happens.

Very nice. How are you getting the look of snow around the beard? Or is this just a happy coincidence?

Thanks. The lighter hairs on the face and hand are actually bright because of the lighting. There's 3 lights: 1 main, 1 fill and 1 for rim lighting. I think the fill light is illuminating those bright hairs. This is a work in progress. I'm still working on controlling the amount of hair on different parts of the body. I'm currently using weight maps with a gradient ramp but I might switch over to UV maps and try that.

Can we see some closeups? This looks great if a little dark. I know you're going for an atmospheric render but any further examples would be appreciated.

I don’t mind the lighting. It’s kind of film noir-ish.

too dark to see it properly...works for the shot but can't really see the quality of the fur with that lighting.

In this case dark is better. There's not a lot of details (texturing) yet. It dosen't look so good closeup. I'm still experimenting with fiberfx. Besides, aren't pictures of bigfoot always dark and grainy and out of focus anyway? That's waht I was trying to capture.:hey: Thanks for comments and crits.

Also, if you have a flatscreen LCD monitor just move your head 1 foot to the right or left then look at the image. It should get a little brighter. Or not.

That image is WAAAY too sharp. Everyone knows a good BigFoot picture is shot at a distance, with a lot of blur in the area of interest.

Here's an update. I played around with the fiberfx settings. I have a new version rendering right now with thinner/more hair. I know... it's still kinda dark.

Can you add less large fibers and more fibers per area?

smooth transition between the non fur and fur are also is needed.

I know the best monsters are that ones wich we can't see properlly and imagination completes the realism, but for 3d purposes I also would like to see it at daylight :).

Part of the two dark camp as well, its got be a betetr way to convey "scariness" and show the details where needed.

Yes it is getting there. I'd definitely go with the get more and finer hair comment.

I know this is more on your testing out FiberFX and I think you did a convincing job some of the best I have seen.

I did want to point out, however, a mismatch in your first composition. The background is a different resolution than the subject... I may have to agree with Chilton, - heh- in that you may have to blur him a bit to match that composite background or vice versa...

In addition, I think your brighter light should come from the left to reflect the direction of the background light and the blue just the opposite.

Nevertheless, all that said... it is too bad some only care for technical aspects and not for your artistic representation.

So with that...To me, the image is striking... and I like the darkness in that it closely matches the colors in background plate rather well. Details of the fur be damned! :D

It was kind of like this... Hey I got this bigfoot... let's try to put some hair on him! I didn't really spend that much time on it. I just wanted to get a feel for fiberfx (having spent many hours with sasquatch (irony?) I was very interested in trying something new). I thought it was looking kinda neat with some blue fills and rim light so I decided to throw some background behind him. I found a cool photo someone posted online and tinted it blue and darkened it down to match the BF lighting. I know the lighting angle is backwards but I tried flipping the FG left to right but I didn't like the composition so I left it the way it is. Thanks for the comments everyone. One night I'll get back to my furry friend and do some updated renders.
