Hey all,
I had some real fun with LWCAD 3 and LW9.5 today and made a domino scene. C&C more than welcome :)
Greetgins,
Sigurd
P.S.: Render is streight out of LW, no PhotoShop used, perhaps somebody woth a lot of PS knowledge can improve the picture and let me know what he/she did.

Really cool COBRA... Slick lines, subtle reflections, and the DOF fades nicely.

Nice!
How about a render with colored dominos?
Hehe, I wonder, if you could top 4,079,381 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domino_Day) cgi dominos, would that count as a world record as well? :)

How long did it take you to render and did you use radiosity?

Hey,
This took about 1 hour 20 mins on my Dual Xeon 3.2 GHz. I used Final Gather and most options are probably too high. I turned off shadow, only reflections were turned on and it gave a nice result. The light is coming from an Image World HDRI image (Chrome Effect).
Perspective camera, AA: 9, AS: 0.05, OS: 0.1, Blue Noise and Mitchel. The DOF also slows down, but gives a nice result.
Greetings,
Sigurd

Oh, I do. Definitely prefer the colored one over the black version.
Some time ago, there was a thread over at spinquad (http://www.spinquad.com/forums//showthread.php?t=6716&page=3) where they tried to animate the dominos. In case you're interested, the scene files were released in that thread as well....
Hello Cobrasoft!
What type of LWCAD tools did You use to make the dominos?
I think it is too slow according to a Dual Xeon 3.2 GHz machine, is'n it?
1 or 2 minutes with fprime is'nt enough?
Thanx

Hey,
Thanks for the comments. Anim is not for me yet (no time).
I've used box, circle (sub) and rail clone from LWCad and bevel and rounder from LW. For the 'falling dominos', I've used the new UCS system in fixed mode together with rotate snap. That's it :)
FPrime is faster, but doesn't support the latest node stuff. I've used a changed version from black reflective plastic on presetcentral for the dominos (thanks Matt).
Greetings,
Sigurd
P.S.: attached, an updated, lighter version of the colored dominos, the previous one was too dark.

So did you manage to get them animated? Im just wondering because i read your thread from the other site while googling "how to create dominos using hardfx" and im still stuck. My god i shouldnt of accepted a project thinking well i have lightwave 9.3, I can blow up brick walls, blow up cars, ofcourse i can knock over a few blocks
arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

DoddsFx: No, I didn't have the time yet to investigate it further. You should check this forum for ODEfl and HardFX, there have been some threads about it lately. Specially about enveloping the gravity to keep them from 'jumping' after falling. SplineGod also replied to my other thread, perhaps that a better way...
