I have made a null parented to an object. I have my camera pointed to the null as a target. When the camera move around the object, from one side to the other, the camera flips over. What causes this and how do I correct it.

it might be one of those inconsistencies with lw's targeting. you can try using nulls and IK goals instead. they might give you a more predictable result.

You may want to move the camera a little more distance away from the object at it's closest point. I seem to remember sombody suggesting that.
I had a similar thing when I was testing ways of animating a train using IK. The whole rig would flip over when I dragged near the centreline.
In the end I gave up, couldn't get it to work properly (I didn't _really_ stick at it for long though (didn't have the time!)

yeah, i guess doing the camaer movemnt should work, you could key frame all the problem ones if you have the time/patince

Have you tried having the camera target a null which is not parented to the object.
That way you can manualy move the null to make the camera follow where you want but it will also mean that you can keep the null a safe distance from the cameras center point.
What i am basicly trying to say is the camera's target point dosent have to to have the exact XYZ cowardinance as the object your trying to follow just so long as the camera is pointing in the right direction.
I hope that helps ^_^

it is not a solution to keyframe it all....it is a mathematical inconsistency.

This is my try on a rollercoaster which didnt work out because of the camera flipping.... :(
