James and I put together a really indepth article for the Crosshatch NPR rendering that will be in a future issue of HDRI3D...

This is a completely different setup based on a conversation I had with James last week... Had time to put something together this morning and wanted to post it.

Lots of other videos I want to do so this might have to wait

Wow I NEED this !

Really nice shading ! Like Lewis said, a tutorial about this node setup would be really appreciated !

I printed the first image and pinned it up against the wall - looks killer ! (who said fanboy ? )

Thats a lovely effect! Does the noise change over time? No reason why it couldn't I guess... almost give it that pencil sketch feel.

Just wonder....have you tried any animation with this? Does it cause any flickering and so on?

Zero Flickering...We did an animated short with the Crosshatch work and it held up great...you can see a test shot from it here:

Wow, it really does look great animated. I was really expecting the hatch lines to go all over but they really stay put but still move with the object and lighting.

Great reel too! :D
Were those zbrush models or were they just shaded to look like zbrush renders?

Thanks for share it, William! I swear that I will try. The result is veeery... very nice. The hair shows a wonderful anisotropic specular without losing the cartoon look. You're really crazy... :screwy:

Ops... now I understand... huahahuaua... CelShader isn't a shader... It's a username. :foreheads

But anyway... the Sas setup is awesome. CelShader(USER) gave to it a nice real/cartoon style.

The crosshatch work looked gorgeous on the video William.
i would like to know how this is done, so i will keep a keen eye on forum (and try to figure it out myself with many late nights using Lightwave!)

Indeed. Let's not let this 'challenge' be forgotten (if only to get CMT to render his models more in LW ;))

I had a few ideas, but perhaps more 'nodey' people than me would have better ones:

A nice waxey SSS shader (obviously)

An 'inverse' occlusion shader (that renders the gouges white instead of black).
- This should also affect the specular channel (shiny on edges, matte in crevices)
- This should also affect the above SSS channel (translucent on edges, opaque in crevices)

Any thoughts (corrections) ?

While waiting for articles and tutorials, I started the wax challenge.. :p

Someone needs to improve it, I think. It's a start at least..
