amazed at the detail

i recently had a few of my peices(rendered at 20 by 30 inches) Printed out (20 by 30 inches)at a friends company, and was blown away by the detail that shows up, that on a pc screen is not as clear. attention to detail or lack of is in your face. scott

I did something similar, except 23 3/8 x 33 (A1 size). I may stick it up in the gallery at some point, but it could've done with some more antialiasing (it had a reasonably short focal point). However it had taken 36 hours to render @ 3200x2400 pixels.

I'll be doing another one for my life on mars picture when I get around to finishing it off...

But you're right - you do need to pay attention to the smallest details!

For a 23 1/2 x 35 1/2 poster size (actuly fits in to a 24 x 36 frame?) at 300 dpi
would be 10350 x 7050 , no need for AA at this REZ. if lightwave and/or your comp. balks at this size, try using limited region and render in strips (good idea
if theres a power falure) then stich together in the image app. of your choice.

VERTICAL strips, to be most exact, cos the image buffer is mostly determined by width, not height.

I didn't make it the exact size, because I wasn't actually anticipating getting one made that large. What I wanted was a nice one @ 1600x1200 for my screen, with the option of printing it on an A4 sheet. It was one of my colleauges who suggested getting a large one done. And after I'd found out how long it took to do @ 3200x2400, I decided I didn't want to tie up my laptop for an entire week rendering it

We didn't put it in a frame, but it is mounted on foam-back card.

Oh, and you can see the pixels close up (so it's mounted where you can't see it close up ). The main problem was the depth of field focus - in the distance you can see it's made up of several shapes moved around (this was LW7.5 at the time).

I rendered an image at 12k by 5k pixels a week ago. It got printed on an A1 size poster. But I never got to see it printed.

I tried to render some awesome micro displacement thing in layout but it kept pooping out with 'cannot generate meush, treating polygons as faces. Couldnt get it beyond 2 million polygons, eventhough i have 2gb of ram.

weird.

We have a hp130nr at work and printed some 24"x72" recently. You really get to appreciate all the detail you put into a render when they get plotted that big. Oh yeah, clients are very impressed also.

Yes, it is weird - in fact, I posted a question on it a few weeks back: http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55193

Didn't get any replies though
