Yup, I thought that. It adds extra value to an already excellent work.
Congrats again!

First of: WOW. That is dedication! Makes me wish I'd made more than ruff sketches of my (non canon Trek) generation ship.
Second: Are you aware that the 32-Bit Windows XP/Vista versions can handle about 3.2 GB ? This means of course 2x2 GB or 4x1 GB (or 3x1 GB on a 3-Channel DDRIII configuration) have to be installed and about 800 MB will be unused. But with current memory prices that's still over 1 GB more for cheap. Provided your motherboard supports more than 2 GB.

Cheers guys! Yeah I was aware of the memory thing, I just hate opening my PC up after bad experiences and my own ineptitude
Rendertime back down, by using radiosity ironically, and shaved some time off the radiosity without the light-leaks Radiosity is poor with small super bright polygons, but gives lovely results with large soft luminous polygons! Render from the side, so you can see it from another angle.

Another update (finally) Had a bit of a break from this, but I am back now with more skills Moved it all over to a Linear workflow model, though I have noticed the Gamma transformations nodes seem to be slowing render time down, so I have just reassigned (it takes ages with 30-40 odd surfaces!) them all again using regular colour spots made into Linear colour space (using Ken9's useful spy node to record the altered colours!).
Having huge issues with spotty light leaks all over the model, no idea how to resolve them other than triangulating the whole mesh which would make it quite heavy to use!
Also I did this without any 'specular' and made my own physical sun model, which is working quite nicely!

Cheers! One of my mates did some post on the EXR file - since it has super-bright hotspots, it's ideally suited for flare work!

Wow, so good its believable. Which leads me to ask the question:
What more has been discovered about dark matter and dark energy by the Pluto station crew? Way back in September 2009, Scientific American magazine published a pie chart: The universe is composed of 71.5% dark energy, 24% dark matter, 4% gas, 1/2% stars-planets-us.

Can you now! muahahaha
Sorry the Pluto station crew can't tell you because of the temporal prime directive That and the crew quarters are currently under reconstruction so they aren't there right now

This is very cool. I particularly like the lighting, soft shadows. Good stuff.

Yeah originally I had a bigger area light, but I shrank it right down, the soft effect is very nice, but in space it should be more subtle

Been a while since a render update!
Been doing quite a lot of bits of detail on the core area, but that's not ready for rendering. This bit however is about nearly finished! Just testing out surfacing and lighting settings!
Linear just fills the thing up with light! There's only one light in the scene, behind the model, the rest is coming from light reflection, and radiosity light from the various spotlight-surfaces.. which are now up to 5k brightness!
