Leo Laparte VT5 stability testing

I heard on TWIT today tech support sorting VT5 issues out on the live stream.... Looks like it's LIVE testing time. Is it just me or has it just locked up ..... it hasn't moved for a while. It's on now ... not great PR...

I dont know if its locked up or he is just not doing anything at the moment..hmmm

All I know is I just did a 24 hour webcast with my VT5 system last week on justin.tv and it went pretty well. I still am fighting a "component input" color drift issue but otherwise it is working great.

Twit vt

Sounds like weird issues with Quicktime file playback. I am sure they will get the "highest support" needed, being a high profile user.

The VT5 has been a nightmare.

That's too bad. Is it a new system or what? Many of us swear by the VT5 and use it daily with great results.

I was watching the LIVE VT5 install last night after I read about it here.

Both myself and our tech support team have been working with Colleen to solve their issues. I was at the TwiT cottage to train them a week or so ago. It seems to be related to Quicktime.

it seems to be entirely related to the DDR, and in turn, I suspect quicktime.

yea I can get my VT5 system to lock up in just one click... and it is 100% due to quicktime. I ALWAYS rerender them to any other format

Agreed! I am a totally Mac fanboy BUT I say no to QT in VT! It can't be trust for live work, which is a shame cuz it is just another step in the process ....

It seems the stream has frozen tonight on a file that was a .avi dv type 2 file.

This is the format that we were told to record in.

What format do you guys find the most reliable?

I use the Type 2 files no problem all the time... doing exactly what you are doing (playing a overnight replay of the prior day's events) I did one stream that went 4 days non-stop 24/7 with zero problems.

I would be willing to bet you may have a hardware issue within the system... maybe a ram stick that is trying to die... or hard drive??? could be a million things. I had one system that literally took me 6 months to figure out that is was faulty ram... I had run test on the ram and it always tested out 100% good with no problems finally I started replacing parts one at a time and finally when I replaced the ram the problem went away.. so as I a test I put the ram back in and the problem was back... but the ram still tested 100% fine with no problems.

Granted 2 years later now and my system is having issues again so time to do another rebuild

Using AVI Type 2 files, we have gone a few days without crashing on reruns. Now we just need to build up a better library of recording things... WITH audio. Since with the VT5, hitting record is not as simple as well... hitting record... you need to make sure you have the inputs right and such... errors have been repeatedly made. It think we have it figured out.

Granted, the inability to use quicktime files is going to require us to have a separate rerun machine hooked up via SDI

Next I need to figure out AES audio input, as well as embedded SDI audio.

Today was a fun issue with titles and live sets flickering, but it seems unplugging control surface fixed it.

I am going to blow on the cartridge and restart a few times.

Dear newtek, if you wouldn't mind making the Tricaster HD able to failover more gracefully for live productions, I wouldn't mind loving you for it... Perhaps have a frozen DDR only freeze the DDR, which it would automatically restart, and move on to the next file in the playlist, rather than crashing the entire system?

Make sure that you are recording the Program Out, not MAIN IN. Quicktime is a virus on the PC.

I have been watching live.twit.tv and it looks like they gave up on the VT5 and they now have a Tricaster Broadcast.
