Tricaster Monitor

Simple question, i think... just ordered a Tricaster and now need a monitor. Should I get a widescreen or 4:3 screen?

Thanks.

Well, I can tell you from experience that the bigger monitor the better,
up to a point of diminishing returns at 32 inches. It would look great on
a 32 inch plasma. But 16x9 is better IME, because the software seems
designed to look best in that shape interface. I have not seen it in a 4x3
configuration, but I am not thinking it would look too hot. ALL that said,
I run a HP 22" 16x9 LCD flatscreen. BUT the preview windows for my switcher
camera inputs would look better on a bigger screen. Right now they serve to
show the camera is working and the general framing of the shot. But when I
want to SEE something, I load the shot on preview or the main bus so I can see it in detail.

I agree bigger is generally better. It think the 4x3 versus 16x9 aspect depends on whether you are working with video that corresponds or not. 4x3 monitors in the UI would appear a bit stretched horizontally on a 16:9 monitor. If that doesn't bother you, no worries. It seems most monitors in the stores are wide aspect these days.

I sure wish NewTek would create a 4x3 interface for the SD TriCasters that would look correct on a 16 x9 monitor. Like Steve said, that's basically all you can buy any more.

Big bang for the buck, in my estimation -- can be had, in a 16x9 monitor from Dell. While we've got a 25.6" Samsung TN panel on our TriCaster, we really, really like the two highly-rated, 24" model S2409W puppies, from Dell, on our VT[5] system for less than $250 each, but right now, they can be had for a mere $189 each, plus shipping. How cool, izz'at?

Don Ballance suggested we buy a couple of 32" Visio monitors for trade shows, and I love them. They are super light weight, and have a great picture. Running those monitors on a XD300 at a show this week, I had several people stop, not because of the TriCaster, but because of the monitors.
