Tire tread tutorial with Photoshop & 3D-Coat

I was asked to explain how I did the tire tread for my Audi R8 LW model. It was done in Photoshop and 3D-Coat and exported to LightWave. So I wrote up a little PDF tutorial (with a little video help).

Here's what the finished tread looks like (with a Sub-D tire made in LW)

Attached is the tutorial and my tire photo if you don't have your own. Hope you enjoy!

BTW guys if the final tire tread is still too high poly for you qemLOSS3 works very well for this. I reduced it from 64000 triangles to 20,000 and the detail still held up pretty well. Could probably go a little further even. I think it comes with LW now, but if not you can get it from here:

Why not apply then the same thinking you used in voxels, to model the tire in Lw, if your end objective is to have it in polygons?
