Yes, lets all downgrade our machines back to OS9. At least then we could play Eric's Solitaire Sample.

I think Biggles may have been looking for a serious answer there....
Biggles... go with OS X. Ade was just joking. Lightwave is more stable on OS X. Most of the Lightwave plug-in developers have stopped supporting OS9.
Newtek, although being one of the first developers to support OS X, is also about the last one to be still supporting OS9. Even Quark has ceased development of OS9 software.

There is no comparison, OS X is the one to use! OS 9 is dead.

I have a better question, my school lab is upgrading from Inspire 3D to LW 7.5, they are 500MHz iMacs with 576MB RAM. I have the choice of OS 9.2.2 or OS 10.1. We can't afford 33 licenses of Jaguar. Now which is more stable/better etc. I run Jag at home & love it.

those imacs, no matter what, will be slow... running LW.
the graphics chipsets are not adequate for 3d packages, so your openGL performance will be poor. I know, I know, money is an issue, I just thought you'd like to know.
as far as which os to run... OS X whatever version, is better than os 9 and lower. This is because of stability. NOT SPEED, neither one would be terribly fast on your hardware.

mwh710: Go OS X. Even for those iMacs.
I've run Lightwave on a 350MHz G4, and it was much better on OS X than OS9. You'll have a frustrating time if you use OS9 due to stability.
Doesn't Apple have some kind of a volume licensing scheme for OS X in schools? I thought teachers could even get a free copy.

I do have my teachers copy, but licenses ar $59 each for 10-99 computers (I have a lab of 33) That's almost $2000. Not in my budget.
