Help Child Bone Joint location

Can someone explain to me why the rest position of child bones is not the position of the joint?

I am trying to export the joint location of all the bones in my object however every child bone's position is (0,0,1.5) which is obviously wrong however I haven't been able to figure out how to find the true join position. Any help would be greatly appreciated

you have to imagine the rest position as it's "unmoved" position in relation to the mesh. because bone's influence mesh, lw has to know how far the bone has moved from it's original location in order to calculate what points are to be displaced.

if restposition is the same as the position of the joint then no deformation takes place.

look at the lscript docs for restparam.
