3d Brush news, highlights, skills thread

Leave the controversial stuff in the original thread.

I am tired of piecing thru that other thread to read about latest fixes and what can be done with this app.

Please post your screen grabs, artworks, updates, problems or clitches, and LW related fixes; thats what really excites me about this app, it is being built so directly with LW users in mind.

Not often is our user base so cared for (one of the key reasons I am a LW loyalist).

I am just wondering why this program suddenly finds itself as the main atraction of the LW Community forum, when threads about other software packages that relate as much to LightWave as this does, are swiftly pushed to the Third Party forum, even from General Discussion.

Third party is where this belongs in the first place, no?

Yeah, you have a point there.

I shoulda considered that. I do not visit that forum enough. There are SO many different forums, General discuss, General support, LW community, LW 9.3, on and on, etc. So it usually ends up here.

Maybe someone could move it.

Hi Chuck,a special request ! Would it possible to transfer the 3d brush CLOSED thread 'posts', that talk about the productive/technical/and updates of the software....to this thread ( but seriously exclude all the religious rants) ?....So that the ones who are interested in continuing the positive discussions with Andrew ( the developer ) can continue them here.... and hopefully it will remain that way !!!!

cause some discussion in the previous were not completely done ( I think)

that would be great !

I have uploaded the new update, 2.01G. The list of changes:

1) Very important change! There was a bug that has blocked most of hints. So now there is VERY many new hints, so the usage of 3D-Brush will become very easy and intuitive.

2) Manual udated.

3) LWO import improved, now the pivot point is used correctly. Many other bugs fixed. Automapping is impruved, but is better to load already malled models.

4) The new command is add - Commands->Offset texture (Ctrl+Shift+F) This command can be used to edit tiled textures and creating tiled bump maps for textures. To use the new command you should load "plan1x1.obj" then load texture oin current layer. Using this command you can offset the texture and geometry on it, so it is easy to create seamless textures&bump maps. It is useful to use this command with option "Pressure on color dependence"

5) The option "Pressure on color dependence" is now in top panel. It is convinient vbecause if you vill cange this option and then forget it, you will not understand why pen does not paints.

6) "Hide tool" is fixed

7) Hardware ID problem fixed. Now the new and old hardware ID-s will be valid.

The links:

Full version:

www.3d-brush.com/files/eng/3d-brush-2-01G-en.exe

The update (must be installed over 2.00 or later)

http://www.3d-brush.com/files/eng/3d...-en-update.exe

It is still beta.

Hi Andrew,
I tested the new “2.01G” beta update and found something about that smooth import problem that may interest you.

The problem with the smooth angle in this version is a little better but remains unsolved so I remeber to export my LWO frog to OBJ and then import the OBJ into 3D-Brush and see how it comes.

Surprise! Importing from OBJ it is perfect!
But the same can’t be said about LWO import.
Compare the attached images.

Red frog is the OBJ import - perfect smooth import
Grey frog is the LWO import - still have hard angles

Maybe this can help you to figure out what is wrong!

Good luck!

Cheers

Andrew,

Have been spending more time with your demo... Congratulations on creating such a fantastic piece of software. The layers are especially impressive as they're Photoshop style and aren't available in ZBrush. I love the fact you can also link up with Photoshop.

The paint controls are very intuitive so far, though I have a simple question - where are the 'undo' and redo' functions? Sorry if this is a stupid question but there's no 'Edit' menu allowing for the correction of mistakes which is a little confusing as it's found in most 2D imaging programs.

PS Anyone tested displacement maps yet?

There was some confusion as to whether they'd need flipping as in ZB for use in Lightwave. Can anyone confirm the procedure...?

How about a "Clear Object" or "Close object" function.. to clear the workspace before starting another object (I know that loading a new object will clear the space as well, before loading)

and on the same vein, "Clear Maps", or "Clear Layer", to remove texture or color from the object without removing the UV maps.

and "Load Primative", to bring up the object window (of predefined shapes that begins the program).

.... or did I miss something?

maybe a "Render Thumbnail Image" option? (for dragging an object from a folder)

Chuck

to Ben Martin:

I use smoothing angle from the LWO file to smooth object. There is angle 90.5 so some parts of frog are smooth and some of them are sharp. May be I use the angle value incorrectly? To avoid sharp edges you can check "Auto smooth groups" and set Angle to 180 degrees.

to bobakabob:

use CTRL+Z to undo, redo is not implemented still . But I will implement in some time. About displacement - there is no flipping, you can read about expirience of using displacement in 3d-Brush forum

to 2BitSculptor:

You can press RMB over lhe layers interface and you can see many options there - clear depth, color, specular add many other things.

Does this use LW UVs or does it make it's own? looked around on your discussion board and saw nothing.
