Videodemo: Master Channel(s)...

Hi,

When we were doing the In-Game movies in World In Conflict I used a technique to drive bones using SoftFX to create secondary animation on things like antennas and cabels. However, sometimes the resulting simulation was little too strong or little too weak, and since the animation was baked to each frame (on the bones), it would have been a nightmare to tweak by hand. Here is where Master Channel(s) came into place and litterally saved hours and hours of work...

MasterChannels, 1200x675, 12MB

Have a nice LW-Christmas!

Very useful info. I would never have figured that out on my own. Thanks for posting.

Hi Caveman I would love to learn this technique but I am in China right now. Your site is not available in china. Could any one else host this video for you so it would be more available to the China as well. Maybe you could send it to newtek to host it. Thank you and I can't wait to learn this trick. one of the things that I find most challenging in Lightwave Character animation is secondary deformations. I am using mostly XSI for CA but I am a die hard LW guy and I would prefer to do CA in LW. For example I am using Maestro in Lightwave but it does not really do the sames thing that XSI can for controlling the skin deformation. Don't get me wrong I think that it is a great tool but the CA I am doing right know is very cartoony. I am trying to achieve the level of control that I saw on this site but in Lightwave http://www.characteranimator.com/. XSI is a Great tool but there are still many things in the LW workflow that I prefer to how it is done in XSI. Maybe William Vaughan could do this video to put on the Newtek website it sounds like it is some valuable information for LW users.

The video doesn't show any character work. It simply shows a technique that can be applied to anything that can hold keyframe data. Yes, I used the technique in order to give myself more control on character/vehicle related stuff, but I'm not allowed to show any real examples, so don't expect to see more than a box and a presentation of the technique.

I don't have a clue to why the site isn't avaliable in China. If someone want to host this video I'm fine with that.

Thank you Caveman. I totally understand and all I was interested in was the idea. I am very capable of conforming an idea to what my need might be. I think I know why some sites are not available in China. I was told that China has to approve of all the sites that are seen in the country. I don't know if it is true or not but it would explain the randomness of the sites that I can't see in China. For example the site that sells Dynamite there is no reason that you can't go to that site but I have tried to visit that site in about 18 different cities in China from North to South and From East to west. Its China that is blocking it I am sure there are many others as well. But think you again and thank you for supporting the community in this way. To tell you the truth the number one think I love about LW is the Community its the friendliest I have ever seen.

Is this video still available somewhere? The original URL doesn't seem to work.

Cheers,
Marc
