Arrow Video Tutorial: Brushed Metal Using Node Editor

Hi

I've been playing around with the Shader Nodes this weekend trying to create a brushed metal look, decided to share my results.

Now I'm the first to admit I'm no expert with nodes, so I'm sure there are better ways of doing it than this, but it may help those totally new to the node editor.

The tutorial goes through setting up the effect in the attached render, also attached are the final scene files.

Video Tutorial: Brushed Metal Using Node Editor (QT H.264, 22mins, 23MB Zipped)
Node_Anisotropy_Brushed_Metal.zip

Hope you find it useful!

Cheers
Matt

Thanks Matt

I've had a few attempts at this myself and never been overly happy with them.

Nice one Matt!

I've seen you use the lil' egg thingy before with threads on nodes. Are you compiling a node collection?

Very nice looking! I love that texture test scene, but I always spend more time texturing the stupid pedestal. Yeah, I'm a dork.

This must be one of the best, most in-depth tutorials on Nodes!

Should really be hosted by Newtek (in higher resolution too). I like the way you show how things won't work as well as how they do.

Can't imagine how you figured all this out. Exact, specific details, not the theory, seem to be explained nowhere, except by trolling piecemeal through the forums.

Great Work and Thanks.

Why thanks! I'm no expert on nodes at all, all the knowledge I've gained is from "trolling piecemeal through the forums."

But when something 'clicks' I like to think I can then explain that in a digestible way for the masses, as I am one of the masses!
