Speed Modelling Challenge#4

Speed Modelling Challenge#4
************************************************** *******
Rules:

1: Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modelling times is essential.
How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.

2:Post a render of your model (min 800x600 pixels) in this thread with a wireframe.

3: LightWave should be used for modelling. 3rd party Plug ins are allowed.

**Please mention whether or not you would be happy to share the model.**

4: You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.

5: Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.

************************************************** *******

Subject - Cartoon Character
Ideally a familiar 2D character brought into 3D but anything goes i.e. design your own, recreate an existing 3D character, modify a manga favourite, etc.

This is a great example I saw recently developed from a 2D design by Matt Roussel:
http://www.lamiedezoe.com/

Time limit - 90 minutes
Deadline - 22.00 G.M.T. Wednesday 10th September 2008

Woo hoo!

And more time to do it! I'll post whatever embarrassing creature I come up with and suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous replies.

I'm going to enter this one, I never do characters! Should be fun!

Hang on 90mins? I thought this was an hourly challenge thing?

It can change depending on the topic. I think 60 minutes is a bit limiting for a full character, not that I've done much character stuff but it's not as straightforward as something you can measure or get statistics of.

Maybe I'm just thinking of myself

Maybe the winning character can be downloaded by everyone for a rigging/walk cycle contest... Hmmm...

Err. Rigging?! :O I'll have to stay out of that one, lol. Or, at least try. I need to improve on my rigging.

I think 90 minutes though is perfect for modeling a cartoon character.

That's why you join in!

Wait 'til you see the mess that is my entry into this contest. It will be an assault on your senses and sensibility. But I'll be better after I'm done!

60 minutes works well for me. I know I can still work within that timeframe but I'd be left thinking.. well it's not as good as it should be if I did another 30 minutes, but I don't have time... In other words the tighter the deadline the more likely I am to enter, others may be happier with longer.

Good topic. Good luck everyone.

I hoped to keep them all 60 minutes for just that reason. It's ok to steal an hour occasionally but any more than that and there's a search party out for me.

I've just spent 50 minutes on Sylvester and he looks like a cross between Iron Man and Batfink. Yikes.

Ran out of time to finish tweeking and spinning quads, mainly round the hands and feet. Stoped at 90 min.
Infact most of it could have done with more work.
Model attached in zip.
Really looking forward to see what the rest of you come up with.
Good luck

Too cool man. Nice work. I'm going to make sure I have time this week. I'm going to make "Mr. Bowling Ball"

NewTek needs to put "This weeks Modeling Challenge" on their new LW3D site. Seriously.

Why not. I think that's an outstanding idea. Considering their new ad capaign is "Get It Done". Well... look what we can "get done" in 60 minutes or less(or in this case 90). I'd say that's putting the slogan to the test. Walk the walk I say.

Too true. In that case, bring on the rigging and animation contest!! lol

R.Feeney, great work! Inspiring even.

I agree Hopper, it would be great to see a link for this on the website. Hopefully it would catch attention. I certainly think it would.

================================================== ======

And.... For my entry... I modeled a character a few years ago I called MushMan. He was a mushroom in humanoid form, pretty basic. Just something I modeled up when I was bored. Over the last few years I've been pondering doing an animation with him, but hey... He needs friends!

So, here is buddy #1; I don't know his name yet. It'll come in time. I'm not sure about the goatee and stache though. Tossed that on last minute, I think it's cool.

P.S. - I know I'm not great at drawing, it's just a quick sketch of what I want to accomplish.
