NewTek Releases XP-Compatible
VT[2]® Update
Seventh Free Update for
Integrated NLE suite
San Antonio, Texas --
January 28, 2003 -- NewTek, Inc.,
manufacturer of industry-leading 3D animation
and video products, today announced the release
of the seventh free update to VT[2].
The primary feature of the free update is that
VT[2] now runs under Windows XP
operating systems. The update also offers several
new improvements in VT-Edit™, Digital
Disk Recorder (DDR) and other modules.
"This VT[2]
update brings a solid release to a solid new
operating system, " said Brian Ehlers, owner
of Video Memories, of Prairie du Chien, WI. "VT[2] provides an integrated and flexible
set of production tools like nothing else at
the price, and the pace of updates and enhancements
shows NewTek's incredible commitment to the customer.
This is exactly what we need in order to keep
meeting our clients' needs."
Windows XP Professional joins
Windows 2000 Professional as a recommended OS
for VT[2], since it natively supports
RAID 0 drive array striping, which is necessary
for editing and real-time layering of multiple
streams of uncompressed video and graphics. Users
of Windows XP Home can perform editing of compressed
video files from a standard EIDE or SCSI hard
drive system, and also live-switching without
video playback. XP Home users may gain access
to uncompressed editing and layering features
by using a system equipped with a hard drive
controller that provides drive array striping.
“We're delighted to bring VT[2] to the powerful new XP operating
system,” said Andrew Cross, Senior Vice President of Engineering for NewTek. “XP
users now have access to NewTek's innovative and affordable professional editing
and live production tools. This release demonstrates our continued commitment
to aggressive advancement of our video and graphics technologies to ensure that
our users have access to the most up-to-date tools available.”
VT[2] brings a complete
integrated production suite to Windows XP. Capabilities
include nonlinear editing with both storyboard
and timeline interfaces, CG, paint, 2D and 3D
animation, real-time layering of multiple streams
of uncompressed video and graphics, audio mixing,
and more. VT's user interface for
these tools is modeled on the actual hardware
familiar to producers and editors, providing
an easy and intuitive transition to computer-based
content production. Optional add-ons include
the SX-8™, a Switcher capable of handling
from 8 to 24 component, s-video, or composite
inputs in virtually any combination; the RS-8™,
a hardware control surface with T-bar and 8-input
buses plus downstream key control; and an SDI
I/O board.
