NewTek
Announces 2002 International Wavy Award Competition
Academy Award-Nominated Jimmy Neutron Creator
John Davis to Present Special Award Recognizing
a Great Up-and-Coming New Artist
San Antonio, TX - May 28, 2002 -
NewTek, Inc., the company that revolutionized
the world of visual effects and 3D animation,
announced a call-for-entries in the 2002 International
Wavy Awards. The Wavy Awards competition is devoted
to the recognition of excellence and creativity
in 3D animation and graphic creation. The Awards
are an open competition for both professional
and student/amateur entrants. The only limitation
is that entries must be accomplished using any
version of LightWave 3D®, Aura Video Paint,
or VT®. Entries may be from Professional
or Amateur contestants, and the categories for
entry include Visual Effects, Broadcast Graphics,
Print Graphics, Short Film, Music Video, New
Media, and Gaming.
"The Wavy Awards are an excellent way to
have your best design and animation work seen
by your peers and key people in the industry," said
Jim Plant, NewTek president and CEO. "These
international awards are our way of recognizing
excellence and creativity world-wide in 3D animation
and graphics design, creation, and imagination.
Our users are incredibly talented and imaginative,
and I expect the awards to again gather significant
attention from the industry."
The recognition garnered by winning the Wavy
Award opens doors for new talent. "Winning
a Wavy Award back in 1994 really got the ball
rolling for DNA," said John Davis, creator
of Oscar-nominated Jimmy Neutron. "At the
time, Jimmy Neutron was a short film. After winning
the award, the short was written up in magazines
and became something people noticed. The exposure
that the Wavy Award brought was something that
we couldn't have received any other way." Davis
will present a Special Award at the Wavy presentation
ceremony for the most promising young talent.
