FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NewTek TriCaster™ is a Dream Come True for Teacher and Students

affordability empowers students to create television station

Pocatello, ID – August 1, 2006 – Highland High School Broadcast Technology Instructor Caroline “Smitty” Faure, Ph.D., EdD, ATC, had a dream. With a background in television broadcasting, Faure wanted to bring valuable courses to her students with an emphasis on live broadcasting. “Media technologies and broadcast journalism play such an important part in learning and education,” Faure explains. “Although viewed as an elective, mass communications hits all disciplines, including language arts, math, science, ethics, government and history.” TriCaster’s versatile and unique live broadcasting capabilities, combined with its non-technical interface and portability, offers her students numerous learning possibilities – in an extremely cost-effective manner.

An idea which began with 20 students and donated equipment from a local television station established what she calls her “pipe dream.” In a short time, interest flourished among students, producing live morning television announcements for Ram TV, Highland’s closed-circuit television station. With momentum and a positive response toward Ram TV, the station began attracting attention throughout the community. Eventually, a local cable television company agreed to air school basketball games and provide free cable access to Highland High.

After purchasing TriCaster, Faure says a whole new world was presented to her students. “Before TriCaster, we relied on very old analogue television equipment.” The students, she says, are enamored by the power of TriCaster, utilizing the application not only for live production, but also for pre-show preparation and post-production editing.

“TriCaster is so easy to use,” Faure says. “You take it out of the box and it’s ready to go.” In addition, she says, “You can do so many things with TriCaster including live broadcasting, web streaming, editing and much more, saving us money by not having to buy software that can do only half of what the TriCaster can do.”

“Smitty has worked really hard. She really cares about this program and she wants us to have the best experience possible.” says Highland High student Philip Clifton II. "TriCaster allows us to produce a professional broadcast and gain experience working in a live setting.”

Faure concludes, “I am really impressed with everything TriCaster can do at such an affordable price. We’ve only touched the surface of what it can do for our school.” With more than 100 students signed up this fall to participate in her rapidly growing program, Faure is excited about the future. “We definitely want another TriCaster,” she says. “The kids are stoked and so am I!”
