San Antonio, Texas --
August 5, 2002 -- NewTek, Inc., manufacturer
of industry-leading 3D animation and video
products, today announced the promotion of
Dr. Andrew Cross, PH.D, to Senior Vice President
of Engineering.
“Andrew’s contributions
to the development of VT[2]
have proven both his leadership and his technical
management ability,” said Jim Plant, CEO
and President of NewTek. “Andrew exemplifies
NewTek’s care and concern for our customers’ needs,
which is the cornerstone of our product development
and marketing. As Senior Vice President of Engineering,
he will be able to apply these qualities in an

In his new position, Cross will
oversee the day-to-day activities of the development
of the entire line of NewTek products including
VT®, LightWave 3D® and Aura
Video Paint®. In his new role, Cross will
be the driving force behind the ongoing development
and expansion of NewTek's video and graphics
software line.
“Andrew helped VT[2]
set a new standard for a powerful, comprehensive,
integrated and easy-to-use video and graphics
production environment,” said Tim Jenison,
NewTek Founder and CTO. “Andrew’s
extraordinary background and capability in video
and in 2D and 3D graphics software programming
have always had implications for each of our
products, and now we’ll be taking better
advantage of his proven skills across our entire
product line.”
“NewTek’s products
represent a broad range of innovative technology,
produced by talented and creative development
teams,” noted Cross. “Working with
these teams and carrying out development while
fully engaged with our incredible user community
is both a privilege and a challenge, and something
truly unique in this industry.”
Cross joined NewTek in 1998
as a senior software engineer. Since that time
Cross was promoted first to lead engineer on
the VT[2] project, and then
to Vice President of Video Software development.
Prior to joining NewTek, Cross was a freelance
programmer of graphics software including GenesisVfX,
