Flyer Hardware Issues
Recorded Video Plays Hot
Product: Flyer
Platforms: 2000 3000 3000T 4000 4000T
Problem: Passthrough video looks
normal while recording, but on playback the video is
too hot.
-
The first solution the user should try is simply
to run FlyerCalibrate to properly calibrate the
Record and playback channels of the Flyer.
-
Check for proper termination on the last device
on program output. Even small errors in the termination
level can cause video to record hot.
-
Check the luminance gain on the input device.
The Flyer is sensitive to how gain is set on the
input deck or TBC.
-
Check the horizontal position of the incoming
video. In particular, some TBCs designed for use
with computer video systems increase the overscan
of video passing through the TBC. This can result
in active video where the Toaster/Flyer expects
the "back porch" portion of the video
signal. If this is the case, moving the video slightly
to the right with the TBC's horizontal position
adjustment will clear up the problem.
-
Check cables and connectors.
-
Check to see if the problem occurs only when a
particular device is used on input or output. If
a particular device is the source of the problem,
have the device checked by authorized service personnel.
-
If all other options do not resolve the problem,
the technically skilled user or an experienced
service technician may attempt a manual calibration
of the Flyer. See: FlyCal archive on our FTP site.
