System Errors & Other Problems
Fonts Will Not Load
Product: Toaster Flyer Lightwave
Revs: 3.x 4.x 5.0
Platforms: Amiga
Problem: Fonts will not load.
For problems in loading fonts which shipped with the
product:
-
PostScript Fonts in CG: incorrect POST.LIBRARY
and/or PSNF.LIBRARY.
The problem of incorrect libraries can occur if
you have other software which uses post.library
or psnf.library files, and installing that other
software overwrites the Toaster/LightWave version;
or if you are running both 3.x and 4.x Toaster
software on your system, and did not make provision
for the fact that these two versions use different
libraries.
If you are running 3.x software, and the libraries
have been overwritten, a complete re-install must
be done. If the problem was that the libraries
were overwritten by another application, such as
Alpha Paint, then you may need to preserve the
library version for that other program, and devise
a means to switch libraries at need (our FTP site
has the files libswap.sfx and Iconkit34.lha that
provide examples to work from. These are located
in the subdirectory Flyer/Utilities).
If you have 3.x and 4.x Toaster software on the
same system, then you can use the retrofit CG from
the 4.x Retro_Support folder to replace the 3.x
CG. The retrofit CG uses the same libraries as
the 4.x CG, but is otherwise unchanged from the
original 3.x CG. Alternatively, if you wish to
use the original 3.x CG, you should download and
use Iconkit34.lha from our FTP site. Instructions
for setup and use are included in the kit.
-
Incorrect CPU library.
Install correct libraries (68030, 040 ETC...)
-
Corrupt font files.
Re-install fonts. 4.x users can simply copy the
fonts from the PSFonts directory on the install
CD. 3.x users who have a disk-based 3.x install
set must do a complete re-install of the software,
starting with the 3.0 disks. 3.x users who have
the 3.5 or 4.3 install CDs can copy the 3.x fonts
from the CD.
-
The cause may be a conflict with some other software,
or a corrupt file in other software on the system.
Shut down all other programs in the system before
you run the Toaster or LightWave software. Re-install
Workbench software; if no change, re-install the
NewTek software.
For PostScript fonts which were not shipped with NewTek
product:
-
The Fonts are not an acceptable type.
The fonts must be MS-DOS PostScript Type 1 fonts,
in order to load into Modeler, and must be either
MS-DOS PS Type 1 or Type 3 in order to load into
the CG.
-
The fonts are an acceptable type, but will still
not load.
Some type-making programs seem to produce files
which do not work well with Lightwave or CG. Sometimes
a font that refuses to work can be corrected simply
by loading it into font-making program which can
reliably produce compatible fonts, and resaving
it. On the Amiga, TypeSmith, from SoftLogik, has
worked reliably.
