LightWave 3D [7.5] FAQs
Dongle/Hardware Lock
What is a dongle?
A dongle, also known as a Hardware Lock, is a small
hardware device that attaches to your computer. It
is an anti-piracy measure NewTek employees to protect
LightWave.
LightWave makes use of one of four types of dongles:
parallel-port, USB-port, ADB(no longer made),or the
Video Toaster card. While LightWave is running, it
constantly checks to make sure the dongle is attached
to the machine. If it is, LightWave will continue to
operate normally. If it is not, LightWave will cease
to function or go into Demo/Discovery Mode.
NewTek has never released a fully-functioning version
of LightWave that does not make use of a dongle.
