LightWave 3D [7.5] FAQs
Dongle/Hardware Lock
Why does LightWave require a dongle?
LightWave makes use of a dongle as part of it's protection
against software piracy. However, there is a secondary
reason for the dongle. By using a dongle to key from,
LightWave provides something no other 3D program does,
portability.
Other 3D applications key off an element of your computer
system, meaning that they can only be used on that
particular computer. Since LightWave keys off of a
dongle, you can install and run LightWave on any number
of machines, as long as the dongle is attached to that
computer while using the software. You can install
it at home, on your notebook, and at work, all at the
same time. All you have to do is transfer the dongle
from machine to machine.
