VT | Compositing Footage

Concept: Compositing Footage
Module: VT-Edit
Assets: None
Time: 5 minutes

VT-Edit is equally at home with rapid luma and chroma-keying of captured video. This is where you can take advantage of VT's ability to capture and play uncompressed video, which will give you the cleanest blue-screen and green-screen edges possible. For this quick tutorial, drag some clips into VT-Edit to use for background shots.

Set VT-Edit to the Timeline view to pull a key. Drag a clip in that was shot for compositing (in this case, a green-screen shot) into the Timeline view below the background clips.

In Edit Properties, select Compositing from the drop-down window. In the Keying selections panel in the middle, there is a button label 'Auto' which will actually do much of the work for you. Click this button and instantly VT-Edit scans the entire clip! VT-Edit evaluates the color background, and sets the optimum value. Then it activates the Chroma key checkbox.

All that remains for you to do is to tell VT-Edit that this clip is an overlay, by clicking 'Overlay On'. Done. Playing the project now has a clean overlay keyed across the base clips.
