Producing the Show for an Arena Video Board
“Stand by Two…take on Two. Two is hot…”
The technical director operating the video switcher for an arena keeps up a steady flow of information to the camera team to let them know when their shot is going live, and to ask for specific shots:
“Can you get me some of the yellow team now…”
More and more, a big video board is standard for any sports venue, however modest, and that means production jobs to put a show on that board for the crowds filling the seats.
Victor Lucero learned video production at Emily Griffith Technical College, and also found his place on the production team at Infinity Park in Glendale, Colorado, through networking at the college. Now he operates the TriCaster for the country’s first officially-recognized rugby stadium, a venue that seats 4,000 and hosts both men’s and women’s 7 and 15-person teams, as well as local, national and international rugby tournaments.
While Lucero touches on the opportunities for work and career growth, those opportunities carry over to local businesses and the community as well. The venue gains a revenue stream in providing businesses with branding opportunities that include not only local but national and international exposure, the community gains economically from the guests who come to attend regional, national and international events.
