NewTek NDI® v3.7 Features Embedded SDK

September 15, 2018 by Chuck Baker

NewTek is pleased to announce NDI® version 3.7, an update to the leading IP technology for bidirectional transport of video, audio, metadata and communications over standard networks. The royalty free technology is now in thousands of products in the hands of millions of users. Using refined encoding and communication, NDI allows systems, devices and applications to identify and communicate bi-directionally with one another over IP, and to encode, transmit, and receive multiple streams of high quality, low latency, frame-accurate video and audio in real time. There are important advances of interest for developers, production users, and IT support.

What Developers Want to Know

  • New embedded software development kit (SDK) allows manufacturers of video devices including cameras, monitors and more, to natively implement NDI into their products
  • Embedded SDK includes capability for making a full FPGA NDI encoder with support for 4K 60fps
  • Integrated frame-synchronization
  • Automatic audio dynamic resampling
  • Significant performance improvements
  • Significantly improved network performance
  • Next generation error correction to avoid packet loss
  • Improved network discovery of sources
  • New free NDI stream analysis tools provide information about bit-rates, timing, video and audio formats and more
  • Improvements to free NDI tools

What Production Users Want to Know

  • Improved performance
  • Improved network performance
  • Improved ability of NDI sources on the network to find each other and communicate reliably
  • More protection against audio and video data dropouts
  • Improved free NDI Tools
  • NDI gains even more relevance for creative work with audio, video and control across a greater range of industries, including A/V, live entertainment media and lighting production, gaming, live presentation, corporate media, and more

What IT Support Users Want to Know

  • New free NDI stream analysis tools provide information about bit-rates, timing, video and audio formats and more
  • Next-generation error correction for protection against packet loss
  • Improved reliability of communications between all NDI-enabled devices and applications
  • Improved efficiency in the use of network resources

“NDI is one of the key enabling technologies driving the industry’s transition to live, IP-based production workflows. Using the NDI Embedded SDK in our new Pro Convert family of converters allows us to bring the exceptional ease of use, performance and reliability of our renowned capture devices to the world of NDI. The robust tools in the SDK and the support provided by NewTek combined to enable a smooth development experience for us and another outstanding Magewell product for our customers.” - Nick Ma, CEO and CTO at Magewell
