2-Minute Tutorial: Automatic Video Playback in TriCaster

June 29, 2016 by Chuck Baker

Here’s a 2-minute tutorial about the Autoplay functions in the media players inside TriCaster. TriCaster features a lot of different types of media players that feature a lot of controls. Let’s look at two of these controls very quickly.

The first control is the Autoplay control and it is found on the left side, bottom control bar beneath the media player panel. When you click on it, a check mark appears and you know that it is on. AutoPlay will automatically play whatever is in a given media player when you transition to that media player.

If we transition to the DDR, Autoplay plays the first clip and then transitions back to whatever is on Preview. Autoplay then advances us to the next clip. If we want to play that next clip, we can simply transition back to that Media Player, and the next clip plays. In this manner, Autoplay will advance us through all the clips loaded in a media player, and bring us back to Preview in between.

Now, select the first clip, and let’s see another way to use the media player: Playlist mode. This button shown here switches us into Playlist mode when we turn it on - when the button turns blue, we are now in Playlist mode and all of these clips will play as one piece.

You will also notice in the illustration above that when Playlist is off as in the top UI shot, you can see the duration of the currently selected clip (00:00:01:08), but when we turn Playlist on and this button is blue, as in the bottom UI shot, we now have the duration of the entire list (00:00:15:25).

Once Playlist mode is turned on, if we transition over to that media player, it’s going to play all the clips as a playlist. As soon as it is done with the entire list, it’s going to transition back to whatever is on Preview with whatever transition you currently have selected.

We hope this video has been helpful to you. If you have suggestions for other topics you would like covered in a 2-Minute Tutorial, please send us a message.
