2-Minute Tutorial: Undo in TriCaster Advanced Edition
September 22, 2016 by Chuck Baker
When we work with software such as a word processor we are used to having an undo button. This allows us to undo our recent actions and correct mistakes or revise our approach very quickly. This is not something we are used to seeing in a live production switcher, but TriCaster Advanced Edition adds this capability.
So, for instance, let’s say you were reaching for your coffee during a live production and you inadvertently put something on Preview. You don’t know where Preview was, you just know that you changed it. That’s no problem. To get Preview back to the previous state, just use one level of undo and Preview goes right back to the way it was.
Undo can either be done from the interface Undo/Redo controls just below the Program Output view, or by using CTRL+z on the keyboard.
Another example: you inadvertently bring up an overlay. Again, just hit CTRL+z and it brings you back to the last known good state of the Switcher.
Undo is very handy on the main Switcher but you may also find it very useful when dealing with a Mix/Effects (M/E) bus. Sometimes an M/E can end up looking very much like the main Switcher itself and it is very easy to make a switch on an M/E thinking it is the main Switcher. Now you have not only not made the switch on the main Switcher, but you have also messed up the configuration of this M/E. Again, a CTRL+z will set that M/E back to how it was previously configured. Then you can get to the main Switcher and make the change that you actually wanted.
This is also useful if you are working on configuring your M/Es, and inadvertently make a change in the wrong one. Just undo the change, select the correct M/E and continue.
Multiple levels of Undo and Redo streamline your ability to create and produce very fast in a live environment.
