Getting Started with NewTek Connect Spark™ Pro
July 18, 2019 by Richard Evans, video; Chuck Baker, text
The NewTek Connect Spark™ Pro encodes HDMI video with embedded audio to NewTek NDI® for transport over standard networks at resolutions up to 4K 60p, and supports Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), allowing for single-cable operation. In addition to video, audio and power, the Spark Pro also supports control, configuration and tally information via NDI over the network.
The Spark Pro allows producers to easily bring virtually any HDMI camera or device into an IP workflow for video production. Any laptop or desktop computer can be a source, for example, as well as any mobile device with HDMI output or for which an HDMI converter is available. Anything you can display on the device you can use in productions, including any applications. Any device with a built-in camera can join your suite of video cameras for your production kit, including for live production.
NewTek video producer Richard Evans covers the physical details of the unit, and how to connect to it over the network with NewTek Studio Monitor (included in the free NewTek NDI Tools Pack) to configure it for use. He also shows how to add Spark Pro as a source in a NewTek live production system. The demonstration is with a TriCaster, but applies to NewTek VMC and 3Play 3P1 systems as well.
