Getting Started with TriCaster® TC1 Chapter 1: Hardware and Connections

Richard Evans of the NewTek Video Production Team takes us on a tour of the TriCaster® TC1 hardware. A key feature of the TC1 system is that the components communicate with each other over standard networks, instead of proprietary cables or computer peripheral ports such as USB.

TriCaster TC1 Long Panel Control Surface, Ethernet Port, Power Port

The TC1 Long Panel Control Surface, for example, has only a network port and a power port. This is true IP-based production.

The tour covers the full complement of ports. For the TC1 this includes:

  • 4 x 3G/HD/SD-SDI input connections supporting video input in any combination of standard formats, resolutions, and frame rates
  • Genlock input supporting SD (Bi-level) or HD (Tri-level) reference signals
  • 4 x 3G/HD/SD-SDI output connections, optionally configurable for:
    • 4 x independent 3G/HD/SD video mix outputs
    • 1 x 4K UHD video mix output via 3G-SDI quad-link grouping
  • 2 x 1 Gigabit NIC
  • Local Audio Input
    • 4 x SDI embedded
    • 1 x Balanced XLR stereo pair (Line)
    • 3 x Balanced 1/4” stereo pairs (Line)
    • Support for USB audio device input via compatible WDM audio drivers
  • Local Audio Output
    • 4 x SDI embedded
    • 1 x Balanced XLR stereo pair
    • 1 x Balanced 1/4” stereo pair
    • 1 x Stereo 1/4” (phones)
  • 6 x USB 3.0 on back panel
  • 2 x USB 2.0 on back panel
  • 2 x USB 2.0 on front panel
  • 1 x eSATA on back panel
  • 1 x PS2 on back panel
  • Output for Interface and Multiviewers
    • 1 x DVI for User Interface and Multiviewer
    • 1 x HDMI for Multiviewer
    • 1 x DisplayPort for Multiviewer
  • 1 x HD15 GPI connector for Tally
