How to Make a Monster (With NDI, Adobe Character Animator and Wirecast)

May 03, 2017 by Chuck Baker

Telestream has released Wirecast 7.6, and may have created a monster in the process - or at least temporarily turned Wirecast Evangelist Andrew Haley into one. Their description for this video: “You can now easily capture high-res, low-latency video, screen capture, and graphics sources over your local network or workgroup using NewTek’s Network Device Interface (NDI®) protocol. In this tutorial, you will learn how to bring IP video sources from your workgroup into Wirecast across your local network.”

And just what does Mr. Haley do with this new capability? Clearly a man after our own hearts, he uses a real-time NDI stream from his laptop camera to animate a monster avatar for himself in Adobe Creative Cloud Character Animator. Turns out that Adobe video applications also speak NDI in and out, using NewTek’s handy free NDI for Adobe Creative Cloud plugin. Haley then goes on to show you how to broadcast your inner monster (and a fish, too!) to the world with Wirecast.
