Introduction to NewTek Connect Spark: Installation and Operation

September 13, 2017 by Chuck Baker

Jim Davis of DVS Direct provides an in-depth introduction to NewTek Connect Spark video to NDI® converters, beginning with a look at the connections and indicators available on the two models, HDMI-to-NDI and SDI-to-NDI. For this video he uses a Spark with power adapter plugged in, a camera connected via HDMI, and the video being transmitted wirelessly, using NDI version 3 NDIHX technology.

He steps through the installation process, which in the demo case requires driver installation. TriCasters not yet updated to a version of the software that includes NDI version 3 support will need the updated NDI driver installed. Jim also demos monitoring the video and running the control UI from another system, so as he notes, he needed to install the drivers there as well. For monitoring he used the latest version of the free NDI Tools Pack of applications.

He then takes us on a tour of the web-based UI for the Spark, demonstrating a variety of functions and settings, including recording to a USB device attached to the Spark.

Enjoy the video!
