NDI® Mobile Live Stream Studio Gear and Network Setup

Michelle MacGregor, owner and video engineer at AVolution Productions/Pro Video Go, shares her take on a mobile live streaming setup, using NewTek NDI® to implement an IP workflow for live production of events. As part of the gear, two NewTek Connect Spark™ converters enable acquisition from HDMI cameras to NDI, a PTZOptics NDI PTZ camera rounds out the camera complement, and NDI-enabled WireCast running on a Mac is used for the streaming. “NDI developed by NewTek, in my opinion, is going to take IP Video Networking by storm.”
Michelle continues, “Live Video Streaming and NDI - no longer will you need external frame grabbers or traditional video encoders as NDI Protocol will take care of all of that for you. You will need an NDI encoder however which, as of now, you can find on the NewTek site or a third party developer by the name of BirdDog. Basically, depending on the device you choose, you have either HDMI or SDI Input options to NDI and then down the line via CAT6 and 1GB LAN. The Connect Spark from NewTek also allows for WiFi transmission. On the receiving end, there are multiple streaming programs that now accept NDI. For example; Wirecast, OBS, vMix, etc…”
