Wistia: Choosing a Backdrop for Your Video

June 16, 2015 by Chuck Baker

More wholesome production guidance from Wistia. Chris Lavigne hosts a video showing several types of background options to suit your production needs.  He also provides practical advice on how to ensure that your background always helps tell your story and never becomes a problem at edit time.  The accompanying article covers selecting, preparing, lighting and shooting the various types of background, from your real offices to video paper.

Additional note:  If you shoot in an office space with windows on a sunny day, the moving light and shadow patterns can create problems with your jump cuts at editing time. Wistia recommends waiting for a cloudy day to shoot your video.  If you can’t wait for a cloudy day, another approach may be to cover the windows with diffusion paper.  This will have the same effect as shooting on a cloudy day.  Handle the paper carefully and you’ll be able to use it any time you need.
